Marriage isn’t easy—especially without honesty. In this exploration of love, intimacy, guilt, and infidelity, two people learn what happens when their feelings get in the way of the truth.
For Sydney Holmes and Brandon Carter, love is losing its strength. Infidelity is the side effect of both of their broken marriages. Now, struggling to pick up the pieces, each is clinging to the hope that lasting love still waits for them, inside—or outside—of marriage.
Sydney’s not happy. Ever since marrying the wrong man, she’s regretted her decision to marry for the ring—not for her husband. Now, nearly seven years and two kids later, it’s not so easy to walk away. When a man drops into her life who gives her the oomph she’s been missing, she may be on the verge of making another wrong decision.
Brandon’s hurt. The death of his son was painful enough, but now he’s faced with losing the love of his life. No matter how hard he tries, he can’t make his wife love him. But soon the attention of another woman begins to mend his shattered ego. He moves out, and just as his new life grows comfortable, the reason his wife pushed him away surfaces, and Brandon must decide if the love they once shared is worth holding on to.
Love is the muscle of marriage. Both partners have to work to keep it strong and healthy, and without it, a marriage has no chance of survival. In The Last Exhale, Sydney and Brandon uncover the truth of what it really means to love—for better or for worse.

"My excitement grew as the release date of Blues's second book neared. I had no idea I'd be in for such an emotional ride.
Blues introduces us to two couples who are in a funk and aren't sure which way to go. Sydney and Brandon, the main funksters, feel neglected and bored. An innocent encounter between the two sparks emotions and awakens feelings both thought no longer existed. Wedding rings, vows, children, and mortgages nowithstanding, they explore what might have been through a shared interest: exercise.
The twists and turns kept coming! Just when I thought I had the plot figured out, Blues slammed me with a deeper dynamic. Not only is the plot seamless, generational consequences are front and center for one character. This one is not to be missed! I cast the movie as I read. I hope the powers that be in Hollywood agree.
Bravo, Julia!!!"

The Last Exhale A Novel Zane Presents Julia Blues Books Reviews
- This story kept me guessing from one chapter to the next. The characters were all over the place with their thoughts and I honestly thought that Sydney would never get to a place of final disposition. Each relationship had its own set of problems but the common thread was harboring secrets. The shocker was that they each consciously made bad decisions but hoped for the best. Not only is that true to real life but also hits home for me. The exploration into the different types of love was also relatable in that love isn't bound to a specific level of feeling or public definition. I love the 'Reflections from the Author' section as it gave me a personal understanding of both the author and the story. Hearing the author's inspiration and reasoning behind writing this story made me appreciate the realness even more. Overall, a good read!
- When I started this book, I didn't know what to expect. But as I flipped the pages, I realized Julia Blues was about to give us readers a lesson on what it takes to develop and sustain relationships and, in this case, marriages. I identified with Brandon and Sydney, even becoming enraged by their decisions to cross self-imposed lines that protect the integrity of their marriages. But when all is said and done, it is the truth that sets both characters free to live fully enriched life, and their failings are a reminder that we must choose our life partners wisely or suffer buyer's remorse. We must be friends before we become lovers. Keep up the great work, Julia Blues. Last Exhale A Novel (Zane Presents)

Bravo, Julia!!! - The Last Exhale was an excellent read. This novel really touched my heart and at times I was on the verge of tears. Life is too short and tomorrow is not guaranteed. We have to live in the moment and not take the people we love for granted. I highly recommend this book and look forward to reading more by this author.
- What no one ever tells you is that once you are engaged to a decent and kind man, only the truly brave can end the relationship. There are no station stops between accepting the proposal and arriving at the church. Pick out the dress, choose the reception hall, select the band…the list of tasks is endless. Basically, if you decide you want out of the engagement, you have to jump off the speeding wedding train. Sydney should have jumped. She confused a good man with a life partner.
Suffocating. Julia Blues captures the feeling of being in an unhappy marriage in a single word.
But what sets Julia apart from other writers, is her ability to convey the wide range of emotions of all of her characters. As an author, she declares no protagonist. As the reader, you get to decide. In this story, I couldn’t pick one. The threads of innate human imperfection weave through each character. Life is a tricky deal and all decisions have consequences. In some cases, you are willing the character to make a different choice. In others, you are chastising yourself because you know that you would make the same mistake.
Reading The Last Exhale isn’t an emotional roller coaster, it is a gentle slide through complex characters in complicated situations. There are no simple solutions, just like in real life. - Julia Blues is most certainly a deft writer who crafts stories that evoke a myriad of emotions within the reader. And that's a good thing! Captured in The Last Exhale are examples of how rippling effects are created when the fine lines of trust and communication are crossed and vows are broken in marital relationships. But this isn't only a story about infidelity. Just when you think you have the plot figured out, Blues throws in startling twists that makes you realize these characters are not simply dealing with surface problems, but flaws and issues that run deep within their very souls. Just like real life, right? Absolutely. In this life, we have freedom of choice in many areas, but what we are not free from are the consequences of those choices, whether positive or negative. What we have in The Last Exhale is a tale of consequences when people choose the timing of honesty with themselves, their partners, and life itself.
Great read! - I enjoyed the story overall. There were times where it seemed to drag along a bit, but I was drawn to the characters and their dilemmas, so I was compelled to finish it. I didn't like how it ended. It seemed kind of abrupt, but with that being said, I could see a sequel with these characters because there still didn't seem to be that resolution that I was looking for. I like the author's style of writing, so I would definitely read more from her.
- There are page turners, and there are books like these. I knew this book would be good, but I needed more than entertainment. I didn't want something that I could fly through, feeling titillated at every turn. I wanted some direction and instruction. This book lived up to all of this. It was time well spent and offered much material for reflection. I saw myself and my life in the pages. That's what I look for in everything I read. I recommend it without reservation.
