PDF Mandela Way Lessons for an Uncertain Age Richard Stengel Nelson Mandela Books
A compact, profoundly inspiring book that captures the spirit of Nelson Mandela, distilling the South African leader’s wisdom into 15 vital life lessons
We long for heroes and have too few. Nelson Mandela, who died in 2013 at the age of ninety-five, is the closest thing the world has to a secular saint. He liberated a country from a system of violent prejudice and helped unite oppressor and oppressed in a way that had never been done before.
Now Richard Stengel, the editor of Time magazine, has distilled countless hours of intimate conversation with Mandela into fifteen essential life lessons. For nearly three years, including the critical period when Mandela moved South Africa toward the first democratic elections in its history, Stengel collaborated with Mandela on his autobiography, Long Walk to Freedom, and traveled with him everywhere. Eating with him, watching him campaign, hearing him think out loud, Stengel came to know all the different sides of this complex man and became a cherished friend and colleague.
In Mandela’s Way, Stengel recounts the moments in which “the grandfather of South Africa” was tested and shares the wisdom he learned why courage is more than the absence of fear, why we should keep our rivals close, why the answer is not always either/or but often “both,” how important it is for each of us to find something away from the world that gives us pleasure and satisfaction—our own garden. Woven into these life lessons are remarkable stories—of Mandela’s childhood as the protégé of a tribal king, of his early days as a freedom fighter, of the twenty-seven-year imprisonment that could not break him, and of his fulfilling remarriage at the age of eighty.
This uplifting book captures the spirit of this extraordinary man—warrior, martyr, husband, statesman, and moral leader—and spurs us to look within ourselves, reconsider the things we take for granted, and contemplate the legacy we’ll leave behind.

"Mandela's Way is a truly inspiring and applicable book on leadership and self mastery. I first read the book in 2010 and subsequently several times since then. It is a staple favorite of mine when I am charting unfamiliar territory that life can bring. Richard Stengel does a wonderful job of painting the picture of a man whom always maintained an eye to the long-term. Undoubtedly, his experience in collaborating with Mandela for his biography enabled his success in writing these 15 lessons. Stengel's poignant desire for this book to serve as a reflection for his children on the full experience he had with Mandela comes through in the style of his writing. I would recommend this book to anyone looking for insights to leading yourself and others through life's challenges. Although he is still human, we are lucky to have the wonderful example of Mandela's leadership and to have Stengel put it into this easy to digest format."

Mandela Way Lessons for an Uncertain Age Richard Stengel Nelson Mandela Books Reviews
- What an Inspiring book; and of course it would be given that it was written by a great writer and about such an inspirational figure. I was already aware of many of the events in the book. I was unaware; however, of just how many of the horrible details this great man had to endure. That he endured having lived a long life is also a testament to his strength and character.
- As I read this book my main thought was, " this is what a real leader looks like." While not an actual biography, you do learn a lot about Mandela's life and the principles he lived by. This is a book everyone should read and I wish the leaders of our country would read it and learn a thing or two.
- Mandela's life experiences are amazing.. He just forgave everyone and decided not to speak evil of anyone, and made his "enemies" part of his Cabinet....What Mandela accomplished, taken apart and analyzed, were simple ways of life...forgiveness....putting others first..just thinking the best of every human being, because, as Mandela said, "Somehow, I just think that will help the other person in some way.." are available for us all, and the world would be a MUCH better place if all of us read this book and began to life with no more hatred and unforgiveness .......
- Best book I've EVER read! It changes how you see the world and who you are as a person... if you want to read something of substance that will better your life then this is the best thing for you!

- This is truly a book to be read at least once a decade because there nothing going out of date in values, respect of people,s as whole and individually take the time. he is most definitely has something that should be read multiple times, so keep it handy for yourself Buy one for your children as they can use the lessons Mr. Mandela shared with the world, making all of God s land an equally great lace for all mankind! May god bless him!
- Very well written and descriptive of the many people and events. You get to know and understand Mandela in a very human way.
- As I read each chapter I could really feel a connection to Nelson Mandela. Mr. Stengal's images and descriptions carried me to South Africa - not as a visitor to another country, but as a lesson of the heart and soul we can all feel. I'm not sure that makes sense, but I recommend reading this book for anyone who wants to be a better human being.
