JavaScript Grammar Greg Sidelnikov 9781091212169 Books Reviews

  • The author does not assume prior experience with programming, and makes an effort to explain even the small stuff, which is nice. For people who have been using JS for a while, the nice thing about this book is that you can use it to lookup syntax that you may not have down pat, (rather than 'Stack Overflow'ing' it), or things you haven't needed, and haven't ever actually used. The author appears to make himself really accessible via social media, email, etc - and seems geniunely interested in helping folks learn. The one thing that would improve this book is if the author were to put interactive samples up on his website.
  • From the same author that gave us the "CSS Visual Dictionary", comes this new release, the "JavaScript Grammar". I'm currently taking a self-learning path to become a front-end web developer first and then a full-stack one, so I really appreciate these kinds of resources. With both books you can have a solid working ground to increase your front-end skills.

In the particular case of JavaScript Grammar, it is excellently laid out, with all subjects following a logical order and practical, hands-on examples and none of that "foo bar" nonsense. The book's organization and style make for a pleasant and effective learning experience.

The author has a very active Twitter presence and is constantly interacting with his followers, offering valuable tips and advice on coding and more.

    Highly recommended resource!
  • I've been reading through this book and it's been extremely helpful. If you're learning JavaScript, or if you already know JavaScript but want a deeper dive into the more advanced concepts, this is the book to get. Compared to other, similar books, I found JavaScript Grammar is especially helpful because of the use of easily digestible diagrams, relatable examples, and an easy to read tone. I would recommend this book to any interested in JavaScript.
  • With a flood of new Javascript books available -- many are highly textual and are skewed to the Intermediate (and beyond) software developers. Greg is a masterful graphics illustrator laying out the details of how the Javascript language works and provides insight in plain speak about some of the theory behind the use of the features ( see also his CSS book !) You will want this book in addition to those that can hold a large door open that are comprehensive desk manuals -- -and that is not to take away from many other outstanding authors and best sellers ! Get this one.
  • I was lucky enough to receive a free copy of the book from the author and it has been the best gift ever! I've been coding for 5 months now and this has solidified a lot of the concepts for me. It's also cleared up some of the weird parts that I did not understand before.
  • The Author got an awesome manual with clear instructions, examples, images and a really easy-to-follow learning curve.
A special mention to Object-Oriented Programming; the author explains it in a very useful manner, like a cooking recipe with a perfect approach to inheritance and polymorphisms. Again, if you do code, you MUST have this jewel.
  • This book is fast becoming one of my go to JavaScript reference books. As a fairly new JavaScript developer, there are several concepts I still struggle with and this book is literally a Godsend. Plan to get the hard copy so I can mark pages.
  • The author has done an outstanding job of merging all things Javascript important and relevant in an easy to follow, no previous knowleged required book. If you want to become a software developer, have no prior experience and wish to delve into the beauty that Javascript is. This would be the first book I would buy. It covers a great deal of relevant subjects in today`s software engineering and web development world. A must have!
